Adopting circular economy practices in the tourism sector: evidence from hotels and restaurants in Mexico.
Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the Circular Economy (CE) practices implemented by companies in the tourism sector: hotels and restaurants, and to identify differences based on the demographic characteristics of the establishments and their managers. Managers from 39 hotels and 106 restaurants in Tabasco, Mexico, participated. The results report that the CE practices in which these companies place the greatest interest are those related to investment recovery. Environmental management and green purchasing practices that require improvement were identified, as well as significant differences in CE practices by age group. It is concluded that companies need to strengthen training and skills development on environmental issues for the implementation of the circular economy model.
