Female prison police officers in Mexico: trajectories and institutional dynamics.
Abstract
This study adopts an empirical and descriptive approach with a gender perspective, focusing on analyzing the professional trajectories, working conditions, and institutional dynamics of female prison guards in Tamaulipas. Their participation in this field has historically been rendered invisible, limiting the understanding of structural inequalities and barriers to professional development in masculinized and hierarchical contexts. From a gender perspective, the study seeks to highlight the challenges, tensions, and coping strategies that women face in the performance of their duties. The findings contribute to the understanding of gender gaps in the prison system and offer input for promoting equity, professionalization, and women's well-being in the workplace.
