Abstract

The research examines strategies aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change and consolidating sustainable socio-bioeconomic models. Indigenous and local communities in southern Mexico have spearheaded efforts to safeguard rights related to environmental protection and establish a framework of environmental justice, promoting governance schemes for the sustainable management of natural resources, planning adaptation and mitigation measures in response to climate change, and combating illegal activities. In recent decades, the region has faced increasing deforestation, degradation, and fragmentation of its ecosystems, and the unsustainable use of resources by both public and private corporations and industries has resulted in numerous human rights violations.
