Cross-cultural adaptation of the questionnaire “Young Doctors’ perspectives on antibiotic use and resistance” in Mexican doctors.
Abstract
In Mexico, doctors are responsible for antibiotic consumption in the population. It is convenient to have standardized instruments for assessing the perspectives, attitudes, and prescribing practices of physicians. The objective of the study is to adapt the “Young Doctors' perspectives on antibiotic use and resistance” (YPAR) questionnaire to the Mexican doctors. A cross-cultural adaptation through bidirectional translation and semantic equivalence was applied to a sample of 3,517 Mexican doctors and its metric properties were evaluated. The final version of the instrument adapted five terms, and the metric analysis revealed eight dimensions that explained 73.3% of the data variance. YPAR is the first instrument adapted for Mexican doctors and can be used to assess antibiotic prescribing and bacterial resistance in Mexico.
