Influence of social media on academic performance and psychosocial well-being of higher education students in Tamaulipas.
Abstract
This article analyzes the impact of social media use on students at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The primary objective is to identify how social media platforms influence two critical dimensions: academic performance and psychosocial well-being (anxiety, procrastination, and social capital). A quantitative methodological design with a descriptive, cross-sectional scope was employed; data collection was conducted using a structured 15-item survey based on a Likert scale. The study sample comprises students from the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas and the Benemérita Escuela Normal Federalizada de Tamaulipas. The final results provide empirical data to inform the design of tutoring and mental health strategies within the higher education environment.
