From Home to Hospital: characteristics and consequences of family violence in Mexico.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze the characteristics and consequences of injuries resulting from family violence treated within Mexico's health services during 2025. An observational, cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted using the Ministry of Health's national injury database. Of the 1,197,545 recorded injuries, 75,263 were attributed to family violence. The results reveal distinct patterns based on sex and age: psychological violence predominated among adult women, sexual violence among girls and adolescents, and physical violence among men. Strengthening institutional coordination is essential to prevent, detect, and provide timely care for these cases.
