Abstract

This is a qualitative study with the objective of investigating what parental involvement is like from birth and what parental participation looks like during postpartum, identifying facilitators of exclusive breastfeeding practices. The voices of ten breastfeeding mothers and four fathers with children under six months of age were heard through semi-structured interviews. An analysis matrix was used, finding that all women consider the presence of a partner important from delivery. Some activities that parents participate in are housework, bottle feeding of breast milk or formula, carrying, bathing the baby, and caring for older children.
