Abstract

This study aimed to discover the use of ethnic languages (i.e. Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Pashto and Balochi etc.) by Pakistani English language teachers. For this purpose, a semi-structured interview was utilised to collect data from 40 teachers teaching at different public and private schools in Bahawalpur (a district in Punjab, Pakistan). The results revealed that majority of public and private sector schoolteachers considered the role of said languages very significant for English language teaching.
