Abstract

A systematization of experiences on the mainstreaming of environmental education for sustainability in higher education is presented at the Autonomous University of Guerrero. Recent literature was analyzed and seven researchers were employed. Three phases were developed: reconstruction and ordering of the experience; analysis and interpretation, and socialization of the systematized experience. The positive factors that stood out are the applicability of the methodology and the documentation of research experiences; some negative factors were low teacher commitment, the need for teacher training, school conflicts, and lack of institutional support. New research will have to integrate social, economic and ethical issues, with the involvement of managerial and administrative staff, expand teacher training, and seek new mainstreaming strategies.
