On the renewed need for citizenship education in Spanish schools
Abstract
We detect a renewed need for Education for Citizenship in the current Spanish educational system, whose objective is the training of students as critical voters and the development of reflective civic identifications. Since the available citizenship proposals are found in the different political programs, we carried out a careful reading of those presented by the fifteen parties that were candidates for the presidency in the last general elections, using the technique of content analysis. We opted for a system of emergent analysis categories, which allow the proposed measures to be grouped at different levels, analyzing, and comparing the coincidence or divergence between parties and we reflect on the possibilities offered by the students to carry out this exercise.
