Abstract

This work aims to describe how teachers' and students' common sense addresses difficulties based on the following relationships: i) education and pedagogy, ii) power and politics, and iii) values and ethics. It is based on the autoethnographic method, which relied on empirical evidence from the writer's experience and on theories that explain these disciplines. With these foundations, it illustrates problems inherent to educational practices related to education, power, and values, in circumstances of a crisis of meaning. It concludes by stating that educational and pedagogical practices are artisanal, as they address difficulties differently than common sense. They do not obey recipes. They are uncertain and complex. They require wisdom.
