Abstract

This study analyzed the relationship between problematic smartphone use and academic procrastination in 584 Mexican university students. The abbreviated scales SAS-SV and APS/SF, both with high reliability and validity, were applied. The results indicated a relevant prevalence of excessive smartphone use, especially in women, and levels of procrastination comparable with international studies. A positive and significant association was found between both constructs, highlighting loss of control and school disruption as symptoms linked to academic procrastination. Although the relationship was significant, no predictive capacity was identified. The findings suggest the need to consider contextual factors in future similar research. Given that both constructs were based on self-reports, the results should be treated with caution.
