Abstract

This study examines the impact of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on teaching virtual instrumentation using LabVIEW and serial communication with Arduino. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design was applied, involving 68 Mechatronics Engineering students divided into two groups: one following a traditional method and the other using PBL. A real-time data acquisition activity was carried out using an ultrasonic sensor, and academic performance was assessed through an analytical rubric. The results showed better performance in the PBL group, both in system functionality and data interpretation. These findings suggest that this teaching strategy enhances understanding and supports the practical application of knowledge in virtual instrumentation.
